About This Stitch Pattern
The 1×1 rib stitch is a common pattern used for shaping in many knitted garments. This foundational knitting stitch makes up traditional ribbing. Alternating knit and purl stitches, a stretchy fabric is made that holds tight to the skin. The 1×1 rib stitch is used in everything from sweaters to socks to mittens. It has a large amount of stretch which is great for fitted clothes. It is particularly useful for collars and cuffs, but can also be on its own for scarves or hats.
