The Make One Away Increase (M1A)

About This Technique

The Make One Away Increase (M1A) is one of the most basic increase stitches, and is very simple to perform. Also known as Make One (M1), this technique uses a loop to add stitches to your knitting, similar to the backwards loop cast on. It is a slightly more loose increase and tends to make a small hole in the knitting.

  • Step 2: Slip the loop onto your working needle and release the yarn from your thumb, tightening it onto the needle.
  • Step 3: Knit the next stitch on your main needle.
