The Yarn Over (YO)

About This Technique

The Yarn Over is technically an increase, as it adds a stitch to your fabric. However, it’s generally paired with a decrease to make an eyelet. The yarn over is used to make many designs and patterns, most often for lace.

Technique Instructions

  • Step 1: Bring your yarn from the back of the work to the front of the work, under your needle.
  • Step 2: Take the yarn from the front of the work over the top of the working needle to the back of the work.
  • Step 3: Proceed to the next stitch in pattern.
